Microformats @ MIX11

I'm speaking at MIX11

Not so long ago, I made a promise to myself to make sure that I was generating fresh content for this blog. Since, then, I've pretty much failed to live up to that goal because I've been focusing on other efforts.

And now I find myself, yet again, with another shameless self promotion post, and my Catholic guilt is kicking in (which is probably why I'm burying the lead on this post).

All I can say is that I hope in the next few months to achieve some normalcy with my schedule and return to substantive blogging, particularly my Beauty of Semantic Markup series.

Fortunately, the shameless self promotion I'm about to lay down is pretty awesome.

Spreading the Semantic Word

I'm honored to be an invited speaker for Microsoft's MIX11 conference, which starts next week ( April 12 14) in Las Vegas, NV.

I'll be presenting Microformats & Semantic Markup (I know, what a creative title!) on Tuesday, April 12 at 2pm in the Mandalay Bay's Lagoon B.

I'll be talking about the basics of microformats: what they are and some of their benefits. I'll also demonstrate several tools that leverage microformats including Google's Rich Snippets and their new recipe search. And, of course, I'll detail how to publish microformats, including XFN, hCard and hCalendar.

Throughout my talk, I'll be emphasizing the importance of semantic markup, with some examples of good POSH. And I'll be addressing what HTML5 means for microformats, specifically the new semantic elements and microdata.

Looking Forward to MIX

While this year is my first as a speaker, it will be my second attending MIX. However, due to the insane schedule of last year's SXSW-MIX trip, I didn't get a full opportunity to enjoy the conference. This year, I will be fully rested and not Southby-scurvyfied, and I'm really looking forward to seeing some great sessions, like:

If you'll be at MIX too, please be sure to say hi! And I'd love it if you'd join me for my microformats session (remember, that's Tuesday, April 12 at 2pm in Lagoon B).

The Coolest Person I Know

Emily Lewis

Yeah, that would be me: .

I'm a freelance web designer of the standardista variety, which means I get excited about things like valid POSH, microformats and accessibility. I ply my trade from my one-person design studio in Albuquerque, New Mexico 87106 USA.

A Blog Not Limited is my personal blog where I pontificate about web design, web standards, semantics and whatever else strikes my fancy. Head on over to Emily Lewis Design if you'd like to see my work or, even better, hire me.
