Last Wednesday, Webuquerque hosted "Standards & Accessibility With Dreamweaver," presented by Virginia DeBolt and Emily Lewis (that's me!).
The presentation had a great turnout with over 20 attendees and, once again, several folks from Santa Fe.
If you weren't able to join us, here's what you missed.
Recap
The presentation was a mix of background information and demonstrations. I explained the tenets of web standards, as well as some of the basic guidelines for ensuring accessibility, while Virginia gave Dreamweaver demos to show how users can implement both standards and accessibility in the WYSISYG editor.
Specific demonstrations included:
- Dreamweaver's CSS-based templates
- Creating accessible forms
- Ensuring images are assigned
alt
text - Creating and editing CSS and markup to support semantics
- Dreamweaver preferences you can set to support accessibility

Coming in June
Our next presentation is Web Workflows in Adobe CS4 on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, beginning at 6:30pm at Uptown Sports Bar and Grill:
With release of CS4, Adobe aims to increase workflow efficiency with tighter integration between their applications.
In this session, Webuquerque co-manager, Jason Nakai will talk about how Adobe's CS4 aims to increase workflow efficiency via tighter integration between CS4 apps. Jason will cover the combination of CS4's Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Flash, and Dreamweaver into an easy–to–use workflow. Specific demonstrations include:
- How to smoothly transition from one Adobe CS4 application to the next
- New features that aid in the workflow process
- New unified and customizable interfaces
By streamlining your workflow and having a better understanding of how Adobe's CS4 applications work together, you can focus on being creative.

In Other News
We are pleased to announce we've finally launched a site for Webuquerque!
At present, the site is just a repository for information about our group, events and our social networks. But, as time permits, Jason and I will be developing the site further (using ExpressionEngine) to support commenting/forums, which means we will eventually be moving the recaps to that site (opposed to posting them here on my personal blog).
Behind–the–scenes, the site is experimental, using HTML 5. I'm not well-versed in this (yet), so I'll be tweaking the markup structure as I learn more. We are also using a dash of CSS 3, which will become more over time as we add additional visual features such as text-shadow and RBGa opacity. Finally, we hope to experiment with @font-face and, perhaps, Cufon.
Any .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) on the site is more than welcome!
Tell Us What You Think
Don't have feedback on the new site? What about feedback on the group? We are nearing the six-month mark for Webuquerque, and Jason and I would love to know how we are doing. Webuquerque is for the community, so .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
