As part of my ongoing quest to test the extremes of self-promotion, I'm launching a new category on this here blog to promote the writing I do for other publications. I've posted about these elsewhere articles before, but never in any organized fashion. Now, I'm going to try to update my blog the same day an elsewhere article is published.
Content for this blog + shameless self promotion = win for Em. And, dare I say, a win for you since it means I'm putting out even more good information for you to soak up.
I <3 Typography
If you know me, you know I'm a total dork for typography. I love typefaces. I love unique pairings of typefaces and creative use of type. I'm constantly identifying typefaces on TV ads, billboards, signs and pretty much anything else that makes me completely annoying to the people around me most. And, yes, I know the difference between a font and a typeface.
So, it is no surprise that when I got a chance to write about
@font-face for ScriptJunkie, I jumped at the topic.
What I put together is an introductory look at how to get started with
@font-face. Here's a bit of what you can expect from the article:
- Resources for selecting web licensed fonts
- Deciding whether to host your own fonts or "rent" from services like FontDeck and Typekit
- If you self-host, the other things you need to think about like font conversion and optimization
- A close look at the super-useful Font Squirrel service
