Before talking with Leevi, I'd always thought of CMS themes as “skins” to change the front-end of a site. In ExpressionEngine Theming, Leevi clarifies that this notion of themes isn't exactly what he's referring to with EE themes. Instead, Leevi details how EE themes are more than the design and associated front-end assets. His “themes” also include files and data for EE channels, including categories, statuses and custom fields.
Leevi shares how the NSM Site Generator add-on allows developers to export channel information, templates and front-end assets needed for a particular site or even just a single channel. His agency Newism utilizes these themes to help with training and education, but also to speed-up the development process.
For our next episode, Lea and I are kicking off the “Get to Know #eecms” series with Anna Brown.
